In their own words:
Hello, I am Sister Dora Nelly Recendiz Rico
I was born in Mexico, State of Guerrero, on February 16. In my family there are 12 persons – my Father Ricardo and my Mother, Alejandrina. I have 2 brothers and 7 Sisters; I am number 8.
The happiest moment with my family, was when I was 7 years old. I remember the entire family was together and this did not happen often because my older brothers and sisters had moved to other places.
I entered this Apostles of the Word congregation because I met two Sisters in my Parish and they invited me to join the congregation. In my congregation we teach the word of God to everyone. The community gives the opportunity to the young people to give one year of service to the church before choosing their vocation.
As a Sister there important things you learn: I have learned to love God, my family and all persons, more. I see the needs in the other persons’ eyes.
The activities of my religious community are to give chats on the Bible to the adults, young people, and children. We visit retirement homes and visit families.
My favorite hobbies are reading special books, and psychology. I want to learn English now in order that I may go to Africa as a missionary and help everyone.
My name is Sister Eri Rodriguez
I was born in Chiapas, Mexico. I have five brothers and four sisters. My father was a teacher for a group of teenagers and I participated with them because the class was the history of salvation in the Bible. I learned to use the Bible with them.
I consider myself a simple person and find it easy communicating with other people. I entered the community to teach and at all times to use the Bible. My activities were to share the Word of God with people in a place far away from the city—a place where the priest didn’t visit or visited only once a year. This is in Mexico and other countries in South and Central America.
The mission of our community is to share with families, door to door, the Word of God. We also offer Bible courses in parishes, retreats for young people, etc. In the community I learned to be more patient and to trust in the Lord and everybody. I love to read and to contemplate nature.
We are active in different places and parishes – some places for one week or three days, two weeks, or one month.
In the future I want to share with people, in English, the Word of God. I’m sorry my English is not the best yet but I am trying. Thank you.
