Sister Mary Leonard Donovan, 91 years old, a member of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Family for 73 years having entered the Congregation in 1938 from Sacred Heart Parish of San Jose, California, entered into rest on Friday, July 8, 2011 at the Motherhouse in Fremont, California.
Prior to Sister Leonard’s 20 years as the Coordinator/Director of Adult Education and Catechetical Ministry for the Diocese of Oakland, Sister Leonard ministered as Director of Religious Education in parishes throughout the state of California. In 1993, Sister Leonard moved from Oakland to the Sisters’ convent in San Jose where she lived for 10 years until moving to the Motherhouse in Fremont to continue her ministry in a Ministry of Prayer.
Sister Leonard is survived by several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Resurrection will be celebrated at the Motherhouse Chapel of the Sisters of the Holy Family, 159 Washington Blvd., Fremont, California, on Monday, July 11, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma.
