Many Holy Family Sisters were Irish immigrants. Sisters Philomene McNeff, Angela Mulrooney, Lawrence Powers, Antonia Murray and Emmanuel Lawler were stationed together in the South Bay. Together they filed an application on May 21, 1928, a petition on May 22, 1930, and had their final hearing passing for citizenship on September 8, 1930 – all at the San Jose Courthouse using, not their religious names, but the names they were given at their Baptism.
