Every year in each Day Home, the Sisters held “Christmas Trees” or parties for the children where everyone received a present and treats. The sewing schools that had been established for the poor by the Sisters of the Holy Family sewed mightily so that every Day Home child could have a new set of clothing from the skin out. This was the time, even in 1906, when sewing classes sat outside in Golden Gate Park to ply their speedy needles. Picture of 1906 Sewing class
