“Boxing Day” – December 26

In the United Kingdom, as well as in countries influenced by British customs, the day after Christmas is called “Boxing Day.” On that day it was traditional in past time to give boxes of gifts, bonuses and food to tradesmen and servants for their good service during the year. The Sisters of the Holy Family throughout their history have served boxes filled with goods to poor families. In Fresno some “boxes” were the floors of station wagons or vans in which new mattresses could be delivered any day of the year. Picture of mattresses http://ow.ly/7iqSC
