One of California’s ballot propositions is Proposition 34, which when summarized, “repeals the death penalty as maximum punishment and replaces it with life imprisonment without possibility of parole” and stipulates that the convicted inmate work within the prison system and all earned salary while incarcerated be donated to the victim’s family. The death penalty is a great moral issue with a complexity of arguments pro and con and isn‘t just statewide or America contained. On July 19, 2012, the Swiss government reaffirmed its commitment to abolish the death penalty worldwide “in any and all circumstances” anywhere on the planet.

Switzerland has long been an outspoken abolitionist and environmentally conscious country. The death penalty is one of the great moral issues facing our country, yet most people rarely think about it and very few of us take the time to delve deeply enough into this issue to be able to make an informed decision about it.
