Human trafficking topic of Fremont meeting Jan. 21 – San Jose Mercury News.

FREMONT — The alarmingly widespread industry of human trafficking and sexual slavery will be discussed in a forum here on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

The free session, “Human Trafficking: A Modern-Day form of Slavery,” will focus on the $32 billion trafficking industry, which, event organizers say, enslaves more than 20 million people worldwide.

The public presentation will be delivered by Sister Caritas Foster, of the Fremont-based congregation Sisters of the Holy Family, and Elizabeth Smith, of MISSEY, an Oakland organization that helps sexually exploited children.

The event will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Holy Spirit Church, Small Hall, 37588 Fremont Blvd. Donations will be accepted, with all proceeds going to MISSEY.
