On October 14, the new Meals-on-Wheels truck, purchased in part with a donation from the Sisters of the Holy Family, arrived at the Motherhouse so the Sisters could see it and sign their names inside. There was a party atmosphere, with donuts and coffee, speeches and cheers, mutual thanks and words of wisdom from Life ElderCare Executive Director Patricia Osage The Sisters of the Holy Family received a request for a donation to help Life ElderCare.
Board Member of Life Elder-Care and a fan of the Meals on Wheels program, and appreciative of all that she does for us, the Board of Directors decided to make a $10,000 donation in honor of Dr. Martin. “When I called Life ElderCare and asked the woman who answered if they could use $10,000, she cried,” said Sister Gladys. This week, the shiny new truck came to the Motherhouse so all the Sisters could sign it. See photo story attached. Meals on Wheels is just a part of the service provided by Life ElderCare in the Tri Cities area since their founding in 1975. The four programs they offer are:
- Meals on Wheels provides hot, home-delivered nutritious meals for those who can’t
prepare their own.
- Friendly Visitors provides regular companionship or even just regular phone calls to help seniors AND our volunteers have somebody to spend a little time with.
- Fall Prevention will help you decrease your fear of falling and show you things you can do every day to get a little stronger. Falling is NOT inevitable.
- VIP Rides provides transportation assistance and rides for medical appointments and necessary errands like grocery shopping. We train our volunteers to help riders AT their destination.
